A lot of people in Russia use car engines on their aircrafts. But you need to know that these engines are not fully adopted for aircraft usage. Gears for these engines are produced in small series and not very reliable. I fly not many times - mostly on weekends but I saw couple of damaged engines or gears during takeoff during last two years. You also can see one another example here: http://akeon.livejournal.com/176014.html. So be carefull. It's your life and health. Usage of special aircraft adopted engines like Rotax with redundant ignition systems is more preferable and safe.

but , Are there any plane with suzuki or honda in some ulm with over 500 hours of flight? with 0 problems?.


the engines with problems is it for the gearbox? or the engine?, electric?.

Its NEARLY NOT possible to build ULM with CONVERSION - engine ITSELF is about 120-130 kg !

My SINCER advice to you - don't want to loose your time with modifications - buy ROTAX and fly safely

in Spain you could find GOOD DEAL for ROTAX , specially today with crizis ... FORGET about all this "conversions", it's a bulshit for mechanics who like engines and not flying !

There are hundreds of newsletters to change and review the  pieces  = $$$$

The pilots with rotax 912 and airplanes,  are the "white mouse" of  the mechanics of rotax.
for rotax we are their test  pilots.

How many engineers / mechanics rotax fly?

one 912 for my plane, yeah right.
but I study various possibilities, something better than a citroen

Hi Celtico.

Of course I heared about good examples with car engines. 500 hours for Suzuki or Honda is nothing. On cars these engines work tens thousand of hours. As I know most of problems related to gears or engine mechanics. Car engine is not designed for constantly very high RPM which is usual on aircraft. Car electric itself is good and reliable enough. But you need to know again (now my example is about Rotax 503 which is installed on my trike, I'm not aware about R912) that when you cut all wires from the idling r503 it continue to work. I'm sure you know that the car engine will stop immediately in this case. So every wire for car engine should be fixed with double accuracy.

Try to communicate with Vassily user on this forum. As I know he works in Canada as trike dealer or manufacturer and very like car engines. Try to consult with him.
