To expand on what Vlad said about fuel consumption, we had a 15-30 knot tailwind from Vernal, Ut to Phoenix, which gave us 3.0 hours enroute. My 235 cubic inch (3.8 liter) mouse motor burned 16.1 gallons (60.9 liters), 5.3 gph, to go 461 nautical miles. That's 32.9 mpg.
Vlad's 0-320, (5.24 liter), which is probably the best engine for an RV-9, given it's better high altitude performance, made the trip on 19.1 gallons (72.3 liters). That's 6.4 gph or 27.7 miles per gallon. When Vlad re-installs his Cato prop, I think his burn will get better.
I really like my little motor, and am amazed at what it will do, but if you plan on flying in the mountains or off of short runways, install a bigger motor!
