Three killed in Mpumalanga helicopter crash August 30 2009 , 5:40:00
Three people died late this morning when their chopper crashed in the Heidelberg valley outside White River Mpumalanga. The pilot, a Nelspruit business man and his two passengers were on their way home from Klaserie in Limpopo when the accident occurred.
George Snyman's yellow helicopter was regularly seen flying in the Heidelberg valley. People that live in the area say he used to land there sometimes for a short visit. Snyman is a well known home chopper builder of Nelspruit.
Just before 10am this morning residents of the nearby informal settlement heard a loud crash. Shortly after - a fire starting burning in the plantation and when they went to investigate they found the wreckage of the chopper.
A team from the Red Cross Air Mercy Services was sent to the crash scene. They found that Snyman and two little girls Cindy Nel and Zandri Germishuis had not survived.
The burning helicopter set the grass and plantation around the scene on fire and teams from Working on Fire had to be called in to extinguish the flames. Civil Aviation was sent to investigate the cause of the crash. The bodies will be taken to Pretoria for forensic tests.

A 49-year-old pilot and two young girls were killed when their private helicopter crashed in White River, Mpumalanga on Sunday, police said.
The aircraft fell to the ground and exploded near a Eucalyptus tree plantation, Superintendent Abie Khoabane said.
The pilot was identified as George Snyman and the girls as 11-year-old Cindy Nel and eight-year-old Zambrie Germishuizen of Nelspruit.
"The three were burnt beyond recognition. We do not known what happened because there were no witnesses."
The SABC reported that the accident caused a fire in the plantation, which Working for Fire was helping to put out. Civil Aviation Authority representatives were expected at the scene later. The bodies would be taken to Pretoria for post mortems.
